7 Fun Lake Co. Forest Preserve Programs Planned for Sept.
The Lake County Forest Preserves will be hosting a variety of fun and family-friendly events this month.

With fall approaching, the Lake County Forest Preserves has a variety of activities planned. Here is a look at a few options worth checking out in September:
- "Hands-On Family Tour," takes place from 5:30–6:30 p.m., on Thursday, September 5, at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville. Travel through time on this interactive, hands-on sensory-based family tour of the exhibition galleries. This is the last free program before the closing of the exhibit, Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross. Enjoy free programs sponsored by USG on the first and third Thursdays of every month at the Dunn Museum.
- Learn about a variety of animal tails through a nature-based story and hands-on activities. Participants will make their own tail and go exploring outdoors, weather permitting. "Hikin' Tykes: Animal Tails" will take place from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., on Tuesday, September 10, at Hastings Lake Forest Preserve, Shelter A, in Lake Villa. For children ages 2 to 4 years old with an adult. $6 for adults and $3 for children. Registration is required."
- Lunchtime Tours: Lake County Highlights" will take place from 12 to 12:30 p.m., on Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 26, at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville. Attendees can make the most of their lunchtime break and learn about local history on themed 30-minute tours. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and registration is required.
- Night Voyageur" runs from 6 to 8 p.m., on Saturday, September 14, at Van Patten Woods Forest Preserve in Wadsworth. Attendees can paddle into the 1740s with a 34-foot Montreal canoe and learn about Lake County's tie to the French fur trade. "Families with children ages 8 and up should meet at the boat launch lot. The cost of the event is $10 for Lake County residents and $14 for nonresidents and registration is required.
- In honor of Archaeology Awareness Month, Great Lakes archaeologist, Dan Melone, will present a lecture focused on the Native people of presettlement Chicago. "Chicagoland Prehistory" will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Wednesday, September 18, at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and includes museum admission. Registration required.
- Healthy Hedges," a free program, takes place from 6 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, September 19, at the Dunn Museum in Libertyville. Attendees can learn about the Lake County Forest Preserves efforts to eliminate buckthorn and experts will share tips for removing this invasive species and suggest great replacement plants. " Free programs sponsored by USG are held on the first and third Thursdays of every month at the Dunn Museum.
- "Beers, Brats and Birdies" takes place at 4:30 p.m., on Friday, September 20, at
Countryside Golf Club in Mundelein. The event is for attendees that are 21 years old or older. A 30-minute golf clinic followed by a round of 9 holes is included and there will be beer tastings and bratwurst. The cost is $49 a player. Registration is required.
