LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- Construction on eight new apartments that will be built in the current Dancenter North building in downtown Libertyville is expected to get underway soon. Developer Jeff Lobvinger has owned the 116-year-old building at 540 N. Milwaukee Avenue since 1985 and plans to start deconstructing the second and third floors of the building in June, according to the Libertyville Review. There will be four new apartments built on each of the two floors as part of the $1.5 million project that got the green light from village board members last week.
Beneath the apartments, on the first floor of the site, is a Starbucks, Avenue 21 Dancewear and Clucker's Charcoal Chicken. Dancenter North will be moving out if the upstairs space and relocating to Gurnee, according to the Libertyville Review.
Lovinger plans to remodel the space using Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification system green building design standards and plans to restore parts of the building. He is also expecting that the apartments will rent out quick, the Libertyville Review reports.
