GURNEE — A Lake County jury on Thursday convicted a Gurnee man of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal Christmas Day beating in 2022, prosecutors said.
Kevin Biron-Bomis, 54, was found guilty after a four-day trial, according to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office news release.
Prosecutors said Gurnee police responded in the early morning hours of Dec. 25, 2022, to Biron-Bomis’ residence in the 100 block of Boulevard View after a report of a possible homicide. When officers arrived, Biron-Bomis told them he believed he had killed his brother, Brandon Biron-Bomis.
The victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.
During the investigation and trial, officers testified that Biron-Bomis initially described a physical altercation and claimed his brother started the fight. Police also testified that Biron-Bomis did not have visible or significant injuries when they encountered him.
Investigators told jurors that Biron-Bomis later provided inconsistent statements during questioning, including claims that the incident stemmed from earlier events at a Waukegan bar. Prosecutors also presented surveillance video from the bar showing Biron-Bomis shoving his brother to the ground and acting aggressively toward others.
The footage showed the victim appearing intoxicated and unsteady, according to a news release.
Medical personnel testified that the victim sustained multiple traumatic injuries to his face and head.
Biron-Bomis faces up to 60 years in prison and is scheduled to return to court July 17 for a status hearing.
