Six Flags Riders Evacuated From Stalled Roller Coaster During Heat Wave

GURNEE, IL — Riders on Six Flags Great America’s newest roller coaster were forced to walk down stairs after the ride stopped during extreme heat Tuesday afternoon, according to media reports.

The Wrath of Rakshasa coaster stalled near the top of the track, and park employees safely escorted guests off the ride after it could not be restarted, the Lake & McHenry County Scanner is reporting. Social media videos showed riders making their way down the coaster’s steep evacuation stairs as temperatures in Gurnee reached the 90s.

No injuries were reported, and the ride later reopened after a systems check, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

The Wrath of Rakshasa, which opened last year, is the steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world, according to Six Flags.

"Towering ominously at an impressive 180 feet, this dive coaster invites you to ascend into the shadows before surrendering to a heart-stopping 171-foot drop at a record-breaking beyond-vertical 96 degrees that feels like a descent into the abyss," according to Six Flags.
