MUNDELEIN, IL — Residents are invited to learn more about the future of The Landing on Diamond Lake during an open house from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at 1016 N. Diamond Lake Road in Mundelein.
The Landing, which opened earlier this summer, transformed the former Diamond Lake Beach into a new lakefront destination featuring a beach, swimming area, kayak and paddleboard rentals, a seasonal food and beverage operation, live entertainment and gathering spaces, park district officials said. The new offerings are part of the Mundelein Park & Recreation District's long-term Diamond Lake Master Plan.
Ron Salski, executive director for the Mundelein Park District, said the live music offerings offered so far at The Landing have seen the best turnout.
"Attendance has generally aligned with our expectations for a brand-new destination that's essentially being reintroduced to the community. We've seen attendance fluctuate based on the different activities we've hosted, with especially strong turnouts for our live music series and food-centered events," he said.
"Our live music has probably been the biggest success so far. The combination of local performers, the lakefront setting, and a relaxed atmosphere has created a unique experience," he added.
During the open house, district staff will share updates on implementation of the Diamond Lake Master Plan, discuss upcoming construction and project timelines and gather public feedback on current and future food and beverage operations as they continue developing the site.
"The open house will give residents an opportunity to see where the master plan implementation is headed, application for grant projects, ability to ask questions, and better understand how each phase builds toward the long-term vision," said Ron Salski, executive director for the Mundelein Park District.
Community feedback will shape the park district's decision-making process moving forward, which will include what type of food and drink offerings will be offered at The Landing.
"It is important to hear what type of menu users most are interested which is one of many reasons the district is holding an open house," Salski said.
The open house will feature live music by Strat & Taylor from noon to 2 p.m., food from Mi Rey Ricos Tacos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and frozen treats from Mr. Snowie, which are set to arrive at 2:30 p.m., according to a news release from the park district.
Organizers encourage both first-time visitors and those who have already spent time at The Landing this summer to attend, saying community feedback will help shape future operations at the lakefront destination.
"The long-term vision is to highlight The Landing as one of Mundelein's signature community destinations," Salski said. "We hope it will be a place that all people visit throughout the year to gather, celebrate, recreate, and enjoy the lake."
