Mundelein Cracks Down On Gas Cars In EV Charging Spots

Drivers who violate the new rules could face fines of up to $750 and towing at their own expense.

MUNDELEIN, IL — Mundelein drivers who park gasoline-powered vehicles in spaces reserved for electric vehicle charging stations on village-owned property now could face tickets or towing.

The new rules also apply to electric vehicles parked in designated charging spaces that are not actively charging. Violators could be fined between $25 and $750 and have their vehicles towed at their own expenses, according to the Daily Herald.

The rules, approved unanimously by the village board, are intended to keep the limited charging spaces available for drivers who need to charge their electric vehicles.
