LAKE COUNTY, IL — Lake County officials are moving closer to imposing an eight-month moratorium on new data centers in unincorporated areas.
The proposal received a strong recommendation from a county board committee and is expected to come before the full County Board for a vote Sept. 8. If approved, the moratorium could extend to roughly a year when combined with a separate administrative action, the Daily Herald is reporting.
The pause would give the county time to study data centers and develop regulations addressing their potential infrastructure and environmental impacts, according to the article.
