Asdrubal Guifarro Munoz, 45, was pulled from Lake Michigan by bystanders Sunday and later pronounced dead, authorities said.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 45-year-old Waukegan man died Sunday after he was pulled from Lake Michigan near Illinois Beach State Park in Zion, authorities said.

Authorities responded at about 4:35 p.m. on Sunday to the area of the state park for a report of a possible drowning.

Witnesses told sheriff's deputies that Asdrubal Guifarro Munoz had been jumping into the lake from the rocks for several minutes before he was seen floating farther from shore, according to a news release from the coroner's office.

Bystanders pulled Munoz from the water and brought him toward shore as deputies arrived. Deputies helped bring him to shore and began CPR.

Munoz was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

An autopsy conducted Tuesday by the Lake County Coroner's Office indicated that Munoz's death was consistent with drowning, with a possible medical or neurological event preceding the drowning, according to the coroner's office. Additional testing is pending.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police and the Lake County Coroner's Office.
