Purple Ribbons To Honor Mundelein Woman Fatally Shot By Police

Family and supporters are planning a weekend memorial as an investigation into the May shooting continues.

MUNDELEIN, IL — The family and supporters of 37-year-old Mundelein resident Mary Alice Love, who was fatally shot by police in May, plan to honor her this weekend by tying purple ribbons around trees and light poles throughout the village.

The Mundelein village board approved the display Monday, with the ribbons permitted to remain through Oct. 4, although some locations controlled by the Illinois Department of Transportation or other organizations could require their removal.

Love was killed May 11 after police responded to her family's home following a 911 call from her mother, who reported that Love was making suicidal statements. Love was armed with two knives when she was shot, police said.

The sergeant who shot Love remains on administrative leave while the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and Lake County State's Attorney's Office investigate the shooting, according to the article.
