Armed Felon Jumps Out 2nd Floor Window, Flees Police: Authorities
Lake County Sheriff's Office K9 Dax is credited with tracking the 31-year-old Mundelein man down and taking him into custody.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Lake County police dog is credited with helping to take an armed felon into custody early Sunday after the 31-year-old Mundelein man jumped out a second-floor window at a motel in Beach Park, police said.
Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the motel in the 39000 block of North Sheridan Road for a report of a fight in progress. When they arrived and knocked at the door of the motel room, Ricardo Perez, of the 400 block of Hickory Street in Mundelein, jumped out the second floor window and fled, according to police.
Authorities said Perez, who was armed with a pistol, was a felon.

Several deputies were called to the scene and set up a perimeter around the area. Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputy John Forlenza and K-9 Dax also responded and began to track Perez, police said.
Dax found Perez's gun in a bush on the north side of the hotel and then found Perez hiding behind a Dumpster in a nearby parking lot, according to a news release.

Perez refused to surrender, and Dax bit his arm. Perez was taken to an area hospital to be treated for a dog bite and a leg injury he sustained while jumping out the window, according to authorities.
He was released from a hospital and is being held at the Lake County Jail as he awaits an initial court hearing.
He has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm - no FOID card, aggravated unlawful possession of a firearm - no concealed carry license and resisting arrest.
