The physicians and staff at Illinois
Bone & Joint Institute (IBJI) are passionate about helping athletes of all
ages move better and live better. As part of that commitment, IBJI partnered
with the Chicago Tribune throughout
the 2013-2014 school year on the “TribLocal High School Athlete of the Month”
program. The program highlights the successes of young athletes and benefits
local schools.
Figure skater Jizelle Chloe Bacani of
Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein was selected as the final winner of
the Athlete of the Month program in May/June. Bacani won Silver at the 2013 Philippine
National Championship and founded the “Skating with the Starz” charity event,
which raises money for cancer screening and treatment.
“IBJI is proud to reward the accomplishments
of these exceptional student athletes from around Chicagoland,” said Dr. Roger
Chams of IBJI Libertyville. Dr. Chams is
an orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who also serves as a team
physician for Carmel Catholic High School.

In recognition of Bacani’s achievement,
IBJI is donating $500 to Carmel Catholic High School’s athletic department.
Over the course of the school year, IBJI has also recognized students from New
Trier High School in Winnetka, Hersey High School in Arlington Heights,
Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Notre Dame College Prep in Niles, and
Lake Forest High School in Lake Forest. “Jizelle Bacani and all of the other
young winners are the embodiment of dedication and hard work and perseverance,”
said Dr. Chams. “They set a great example for everyone in these communities.”
