Bakers Square In Libertyville Closes

The restaurant well-known for its pies has closed its Libertyville location.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — The Bakers Square in Libertyville is among five Chicago-area locations that have closed. American Blue Ribbon Holdings, which owns the restaurant chain, blamed high wages and growing competition for declining sales and higher operating losses, Restaurant Business reported.

The holding company filed for bankruptcy this past week and said in a press release that it planned to restructure under a "healthy core of restaurants" while it explores new strategic options. Employees at the 33 locations nationwide that have shut down permanently will be offered a severance package or transferred to another Bakers Square location.

On Friday, Bakers Square closed its Libertyville, Lansing, Alsip, Orland Park and Merrillville locations, the Chicago Tribune reports. Meanwhile, 10 locations across the Chicago area remain open, including the Bakers Square at 6340 Grand Avenue in Gurnee.
