UPDATE: Bicyclist Hit By SUV Near Libertyville Has Died

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 64-year-old Green Oaks woman who was hit by a sport utility vehicle while riding her bike Sunday morning near Libertyville has died, authorities said Monday afternoon.

The collision occurred at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Saint Marys Road and Terre Drive in unincorporated Libertyville. Authorities say the bike crossed Saint Marys Road from the west side of Terre Drive and "drove directly" into the path of a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, which was headed south on Saint Marys Road near Terre Drive, according to news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the Toyota, an 81-year-old man, told authorities he was unable to stop in time to prevent the collision. The bicyclist was originally taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.

She later died, authorities said Monday afternoon. An autopsy is being scheduled with the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The driver of the Toyota was not injured, according to the news release. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
