Boy, 3, Dies After Family Member Accidentally Runs Him Over: Police
The family member was moving vehicles out of a driveway in Beach Park when she did not see the boy and hit him, police said.

BEACH PARK, IL — A 3-year-old boy has died after he was run over by a vehicle driven by a family member.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office was called to a home in the 12700 block of West Beach Road in Beach Park at about 12 p.m. Monday for the reported incident. When deputies arrived, they found family members performing CPR on the child.
The boy was taken to Vista East Medical Center with extremely critical injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital, according to the news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, authorities said the boy resided at the home where the incident occurred but did not identify who he was. Results from an autopsy show the boy died from blunt injuries as a result of the incident.
Authorities say an adult family member was moving vehicles when the incident occurred so that other children could play basketball in the driveway at the home. The boy rode his bicycle behind the vehicle while she was backing a car out, and the woman said she did not see him, according to the news release.

Police say she reported feeling the vehicle strike something, stopped and got out of the vehicle to find the boy under the car, according to authorities. The name of the boy killed in the incident has not yet been released.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
