Car Nearly Hits Cop Cars, Drives Into Park: Police

Sergio Alcaide, 33, of North Chicago, was arrested early on Dec. 3 and charged with aggravated driving under the influence.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 33-year-old North Chicago man faces aggravated drunken driving charges following his arrest during the early morning hours of Dec. 3.

Sergio Alcaide, of the 1500 block of Kristin Avenue, has also been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while license revoked, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage following the Dec. 3. incident.

His arrest came after two officers spotted a car heading toward their two squad cars in the 1500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue after finishing up a traffic stop in that area, according to a police report.

The car, which was traveling slowly northbound on N. Milwaukee Avenue, came within several feet of one of the squad cars before it drove up on the curb and entered the Adler Park property, according to police.

The vehicle then came to a stop about 25 to 30 feet inside of the park.

Officers spoke with the driver, who was identified as Alcaide, and "observed multiple indicators of impairment" and took him into custody based on results from sobriety tests, according to the police report.

Alcaide appeared for a bond hearing where his bail was set at $35,000 and then was taken to the Lake County Jail.
