Coroner IDs Lake Villa Man Killed In Crash Near Libertyville
The man killed in the collision on Route 21 Tuesday evening has been identified as William Matthies.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the 49-year-old Lake Villa man killed in a Tuesday evening collision near Libertyville as William Matthies.
The collision happened at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday when a BMW motorcycle, driven by Matthies, was headed south on Route 21 and hit a Hyundai SUV, which was turning left onto Route 21 from the Independence Grove Dog Park, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
According to witness reports, the motorcyclist was driving at a high rate of speed and weaving in and out of traffic prior to the collision. Matthies was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Preliminary results from an autopsy show he died from blunt force injuries sustained in the collision.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 68-year-old woman, was not injured.
