Coroner IDs Mundelein Man Killed In Libertyville Crash

The 61-year-old man has been identified as Ezequiel Martinez of Mundelein.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 61-year-old man killed following a crash Sunday night on U.S. Highway 45 in Libertyville has been identified as Ezequiel Martinez of Mundelein.

The two-vehicle crash happened at 11:45 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 45 and Peterson Road, authorities said. Martinez became trapped in the vehicle due to extensive damage caused by the crash and needed to extricated by Libertyville firefighters.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room. On Monday, the Lake County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy on Martinez, and preliminary results from the autopsy show he died from blunt force injuries.

The other driver sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening and was taken to the hospital, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
