The early educator Teacher of the Year award is given to a teacher that has one to four years of teaching experience.

Since 1970, the Illinois State Board of Education has sponsored the Illinois Teacher of the Year program, which is meant to recognize the best teachers in Illinois. The top nominees from eight regions in the state are designated as Regional Teachers of the Year; and the Illinois Teacher of the Year is selected from that group.
