D70 School Board To Consider Firing Teacher Accused Of Secretly Recording Students

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A Libertyville middle school teacher accused of secretly recording students and using artificial intelligence to create sexually explicit images is expected to be fired by the school board, officials said.

Marshall Sheffer, 44, a social studies teacher at Highland Middle School, was arrested July 3 after students reported concerns that they may have been recorded, according to authorities.

Prosecutors allege a search of Sheffer’s phone uncovered images of students ages 12 to 14 years that were altered using AI to create sexually explicit images, and he faces eight felony counts related to child sexual abuse material, according to Lake & McHenry County Scanner.

Libertyville School District 70 Superintendent Rebecca Jenkins saidthe district administration will recommend terminating Sheffer’s employment, according to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner. The Libertyville School District 70 Board of Education is scheduled to consider his termination during a special meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Education Resource Center in Libertyville.
