Some student textbook fees for the 2016-2017 school year in Libertyville Elementary District 70 will increase slightly for first through fifth grade to include the cost of apps to integrate with textbooks and planners.

Fees for the upcoming school year, textbook rental fees and supply costs will be $95 for students in grades first through fifth, which is a $5 increase over the $90 charged for this school year.

Other fees will remain the same as last year, including $90 for kindergarten, and $110 for students in middle school, sixth through eighth grade. Fees cover textbook rentals and technology usage.

The fees were unanimously approved by the Board of Education during a Monday night, Nov. 23, meeting.

The Board of Education also slightly increased rates last year, which was the first time in eight years they increased fees, to help cover increased costs as the district moved into paying registration fees through credit cards.

“We’ve worked hard to keep costs low as we consider the bottom line for our stakeholders,” said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher, adding that neighboring fees can be seen somewhat higher. “This is simply a way of having this cost tied into the textbook fees rather than having the Family Association or staff request additional funds at the onset of the school year. Overall, fees are still viewed as somewhat low when compared to neighboring school districts.”
