DUI Charge For Man Sleeping in Running Car: Police
Libertyville police found him in a thru lane of traffic in the Lake Street parking garage in Libertyville.
LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A 52-year-old man who fell asleep in his car in the thru lane of traffic in a Libertyville parking lot was arrested last week for drunk driving, police said. Jay David Harp, of Sun City, Arizona, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with the Feb. 27 incident, which occurred in the Lake Street parking garage in Libertyville. Authorities found Harp asleep in his running car in a parking lot on the south side of the parking garage at 1:53 a.m. on Feb. 27, according to a Libertyville Police Department report.
Officers woke him up and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he refused to do, according to the police report. He was taken into custody “based on officer’s observations,” police said.
Harp was released after posting a recognizance bond. He is next expected in court on March 22.
