Elderly Man Killed, 3 Injured In Lake County Crash

The two-vehicle collision happened Tuesday afternoon at Mill Creek Road and Route 173 in Wadsworth.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — An elderly man was killed in a two-vehicle collision in Wadsworth Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The collision happened at about 2 p.m. when a 2018 Hyundai Elantra headed north on Mill Creek Road failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Route 173. The Hyundai was hit by a Volkswagen GTI, which was headed east on Route 173.

A back seat passenger in the Hyundai, a 76-year-old man from Mexico, was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Pleasant Prairie where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.

Three other people in the car were taken to Froedtert Hospital in Pleasant Prairie with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, including: a 23-year-old woman who was riding in the front seat, an 18-year-old man who was riding in the back seat and a 45-year-old woman who was driving the car. All three are from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 39-year-old Lake Villa man, was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
