Election 2020: Voter Registration Deadlines

Before you can receive a ballot and vote in the November 3, 2020 General Election, you must be registered with your current name and Lake County street address.

Registered voters can verify their record is up to date by logging Into the Lake County Clerk’s website, LakeVoterPower.info, or calling our Voter Registration Services Department at 847-377-Vote (8683).

If you need to update your existing record or register for the first time, voter registration is open now and is conveniently available online, in-person, or by mail. The Lake County Clerk’s office maintains all Lake County voter registration records and sends nightly uploads of this information to the Illinois State Board of Elections’ database.

Available until October 6, 2020

• In-person voter registration with a deputy registrar is available at most municipal, township, or library facilities. Please check with the office you want to visit for any modified services or hours because of COVID-19. Official Places of Voter Registration (http://www.lakecountyil.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1040) The Lake County Clerk's office, 18 N. County Street, Room 101, Waukegan, Illinois, offers voter registration to walk-in customers on weekdays from 9 AM to Noon. Face covering is required to enter the building. When registering with a deputy registrar, you must be able to provide two pieces of valid identification. Both pieces must show your current name, and one must show your current Lake County physical street address.
• Mail-in voter registration form is available by visiting the Lake County Clerk’s website, LakeCountyClerk.info, and downloading an application. Your completed form must be printed and delivered to the Lake County Clerk’s office by 5 PM on October 6 or mailed with a postmark by the same date. To verify your identity, you will need to provide your Illinois Driver’s License, State Identification number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number as part of the application process. Available until October 18, 2020

• In-person voter registration is available at any Illinois Secretary of State Driver’s Service Facility when you are there for their other services.
• Online voter registration is offered through the State Board of Elections’ Illinois Online Voter Registration Application website (https://ova.elections.il.gov). You must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License or State Identification card to register online.

Grace Voter Registration is available in the Lake County Main Courthouse Lobby, 18 N. County Street, Waukegan, Illinois on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Face covering is required to enter the building. Applicants will be required to register, present two forms of valid identification (both must have name, and one must have current Lake County street address), and vote at the same time.

Available October 19 to November 2, 2020

Grace Voter Registration is available at every Early Voting site, and you may go to any location. All locations are open until Sunday, November 1 offering weekday, evening, and weekend hours. Only four locations will remain open on Monday, November 2. Applicants will be required to register, present two forms of valid identification (both must have name, and one must have current Lake County street address), and vote at the same time.

Election Day, November 3, 2020

Grace Voter Registration is available at your assigned neighborhood voting site, the Lake County Main Courthouse Lobby (18 N. County St., Waukegan), or the Lake County Fairgrounds. Election Day polls are open from 6 AM to 7 PM. Applicants will be required to register, present two forms of valid identification (both must have name, and one must have current Lake County street address), and vote at the same time.

Voter Registration Requirements

To register, you must be:

• a United States citizen,
• a resident of your precinct 30 days before the election,
• 18 years of age or older on or before the November 3, 2020 General Election,
• not be convicted and in jail, and
• not claim the right to vote anywhere else.
