Feed My Starving Children Responding to Hunger Crisis
FMSC is asking for volunteers at Chicago-area packing facilities.
Famine has been declared in South Sudan. Somalia, Nigeria and Yemen are at risk of famine in the coming months. Meanwhile, hundreds of families in Haiti have been found living in damp, disease-ridden caves after their homes were destroyed by Hurricane Matthew.
Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) is responding to this hunger crisis and plans to immediately pack and ship at least 10 million meals already requested by partner organizations working in Somalia and Haiti. Thousands of FMSC MannaPack™ meals have recently been sent, but the need continues to rise.
Due to violent conflict in South Sudan, many feeding programs have been suspended as meal recipients of partner organizations have fled the country as refugees. There are an estimated 750,000 refugees from South Sudan currently living in Uganda, where FMSC food distribution partners reach thousands of these refugees every day with FMSC MannaPack meals.

FMSC is currently working to resume meal shipments to South Sudan once a secure route is successfully established. Because many of the countries hardest hit by drought and famine are also war-torn nations like Nigeria and Yemen where food is nearly impossible to deliver, FMSC’s efforts are currently being directed to Somalia and Southern Haiti.

A Christian non-profit founded in 1987, Feed My Starving Children tackles world hunger by sending volunteer-packed, nutritious meals to 70 countries, where they’re used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. Last year, FMSC welcomed nearly 1.1 million volunteers to pack more than 284 million meals to feed more than 779,000 kids daily for a year. The Minnesota-based charity spends more than 90% of total annual donations directly on feeding kids.
