Foodie 5K Comes to Libertyville, Brings Running, Food Trucks and More

You can register now for the race on May 13.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL - More than 1,300 runners are expected to participate in the fourth annual Foodie 5K race to be held at Independence Grove on Saturday, May 13. The event features a post-race festival with entertainment, gourmet food trucks and activities for kids following the race and awards ceremony. The Foodie 5K race series presented by Meijer also includes a race in Romeoville at Lewis University on September 9, according to a news release.

The first 2017 Foodie 5K was held in April at Cantigny Park in Wheaton, and raised more than $101,500 with more than 1,600 participants. Last year, the Foodie 5Ks attracted more than 2,800 participants and raised more than $216,000 to support Northern Illinois Food Bank’s efforts of solving hunger across Northern Illinois.

  • WHEN: Saturday, May 13, 2017, 9 to 11:30 a.m. (Race will be held rain or shine)
    • 9:00 a.m.: Runners Begin
    • 9:05 a.m.: Walkers and Strollers Begin
    • 10:15 am.: Awards Ceremony Immediately Following: Food truck festival and kid’s zone opens
  • WHERE: Independence Grove, 16400 Buckley Road in Libertyville
  • WHY: Northern Illinois Food Bank provides nutritious food to 71,500 neighbors in need each week, and the Foodie 5K race series is one of seven major fundraising events held throughout the year. Every $1 raised provides $8 in food for families in need across the Food Bank’s 13-county service area.
