Free Lake Fest To Bring Music, Food And Family Fun To Mundelein
The inaugural event will feature a Wonder Lake Ski Team performance, live music, food vendors and kids' activities at The Landing.
MUNDELEIN, IL — Mundelein residents can celebrate the end of summer with a full day of free lakeside entertainment, food and family activities during the inaugural Lake Fest at The Landing on Diamond Lake.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at The Landing, 1016 N. Diamond Lake Road. Admission is free, and no registration is required.
The Mundelein Park & Recreation District created Lake Fest as one of the first major events at The Landing as it works to introduce residents to the new community gathering space.

“As we’ve started activating The Landing, one of our priorities has been finding ways to bring people to the site to showcase everything it has become,” said Kyle Berg, director of recreation and facilities. “Lake Fest is a great opportunity to take advantage of what makes this location so unique.”
The Landing is designed to give residents more ways to experience Diamond Lake, including live music, food and beverages, events, programs, rentals and opportunities to gather with family and friends.

“The biggest difference is the variety of ways people can now experience Diamond Lake,” Berg said. “With The Landing, we’re working to create a true community gathering place.”
One of the event’s highlights will be a performance by the Wonder Lake Ski Team from 3 to 4:15 p.m. The team will perform jumps, tricks and synchronized routines on Diamond Lake.
The ski show is a return to a familiar setting for the team. The Mundelein Park & Recreation District hosted the Wonder Lake Ski Show Team for performances at Diamond Lake for many years, making the group a natural fit for Lake Fest, Berg said.
The evening will feature live music from local band Five Rounds from 5 to 8 p.m.
Food will be available beginning at noon from Prime Beef LTD, located at 416 Morris Ave. in Mundelein, and beginning at 1 p.m. from Buenos Dias. The Landing also will offer food and beverages, including adult beverages, throughout the event.
Families can participate in free kids' crafts and other activities throughout the day.
The park district hopes Lake Fest will become an annual event as The Landing develops into a year-round destination.
“Our hope is that people begin to think of The Landing as one of those community destinations where there’s always a reason to come back,” Berg said. “We’d love to see Lake Fest grow into an annual event that people associate with Mundelein and Diamond Lake, while The Landing develops into a destination for community members of all interests, abilities and ages.”
Because Lake Fest is the first event of its kind at The Landing, the park district does not have an attendance estimate for the inaugural festival. Instead, officials plan to use the event to learn how residents use the site during a larger-scale gathering while focusing on creating a positive experience and introducing more people to The Landing.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase. More information is available from the Mundelein Park & Recreation District.
