Garage Suites With 'Mancaves' Being Built in Mundelein

MUNDELEIN, IL — Garage suites are coming to Mundelein. But what is a garage suite and why does your car need a suite?

Well, Big Door, the company behind the garage suites, say the suites are meant to be a "unique space for buyers to store collectibles and pursue their passions." The suites are not just meant for luxury cars. The units come equipped with plumbing and include heating and cooling as well as a large overhead door, according to a Big Door news release.

"The units are set up to be an extension of an owner’s home, allowing full customization to create the ultimate mancave or she shed," according to Big Door officials.

Big Door recently broke ground and started construction on its suites on Wilhelm Road in Mundelein. The suites will range in size from 560 square feet to 1,500 square feet and

The development also includes an owners’ clubhouse with a meeting room, kitchen and restroom with a shower.

The cost for a garage suite starts at $136,600. So far, 34 percent of the suites at the Mundelein site have been reserved, said John Victor, principal at Big Door.

“Getting this project underway in earnest represents years of work and is incredibly exciting. We are eager to introduce the concept to this area and show people what an amazing addition to their lifestyle that a garage suite from Big Door can be," said John Victor, principal at Big Door.

Founded in 2017, Big Door is a developer of garage suites with an initial focus on the Chicago area.
