Golf Outing Assists Students with Life Threatening Diseases

Pete's Pals 9th Annual Golf Outing this Monday

Pete’s Pals is hosting its 9th annual golf tournament this Monday to raise funds for students with life threatening diseases. Pete’s Pals are the friends and family of Peter James Herchenbach, who passed away from a brain stem tumor on August 22, 2006. Pete’s legacy was his sincere love for others and his brilliant smile, which lasted up to his last days just as he was to start his college career.

The Peter J. Herchenbach Memorial Scholarship Fund honors Pete’s spirit by supporting anyone who, like him, is living each day as best they can despite difficult health circumstances. Over the past eight years the Fund has helped 17 students attend college.

“Getting sick made me want to become a nurse,” says Kylene Ogborn, who was diagnosed with a rare bone marrow disease at age 16. “The scholarship from Pete’s Pals made it financially possible for me to graduate from college with a nursing degree and make my goal of becoming a nurse a reality.”

“When Pete lost his battle with brain cancer it was tough on his family,” says Brad Seaman of Tricore Pacific Capital and a longtime supporter of Pete’s Pals. “I always admired they took something so difficult and turned it into something so positive. Pete’s family started Pete’s Pals to help kids dealing with debilitating illnesses carry on with their lives. It is a terrific way to carry on Pete’s memory and I’m proud to be part of it.”

Registration and warm-up will begin at 11 a.m. with a shotgun to begin at noon. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. there will be cocktails, dinner and a silent auction. The event will take place at Hawthorn Woods Country Club, 1 Tournament Drive North, Hawthorn Woods, IL 60047.
