LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A popular Evanston bakery has opened its second location in Libertyville, and the grand opening of Hewn is planned for Thursday.

On Wednesday, the business, located at 348 N. Milwaukee Avenue, hosted a soft opening, according to Hewn's Facebook page. An official grand opening is planned for 9 a.m. Thursday.

Hewn plans to initially serve a scaled back version of its Evanston menu, including croissants, loaves of blonde country and whole wheat seeded bread and brownies. All of the business's baked goods will still be prepared in Evanston and then transported via delivery vans to the Libertyville location.

"We were looking at a whole bunch of towns, but then when this property came up it was like, 'Oh this seems perfect, because it's right on the main street there,'" co-owner Julie Matthei told Patch last year. "It seems like it's a really business-friendly suburb, a nice community of people who want and appreciate good food. All of those factors came into play."

In 2020, Food & Wine picked Hewn as one of the 100 best bakeries in the country.
