Gregory Caronis, M.D. Named Chief of Surgery at Advocate Condell

New year brings transition in hospital leadership

The start of 2019 marks a transition in hospital leadership at Advocate Condell Medical Center with orthopedic surgeon Gregory Caronis, M.D. assuming the role of Chief of Surgery. Nominated by his peers, Caronis will work to ensure that organizational aspects of the surgical department remain focused on patient care and the highest quality of service.

An active member of the trauma team of Advocate Condell’s Level 1 trauma center, Caronis has a strong interest in bringing coordinated, effective surgical care to trauma patients. “We are fortunate to have such an outstanding resource in this community, " said Caronis. “I will work to ensure that we have the staffing and processes in place that will allow us to provide highly coordinated and expedient state-of-the-art care to the most severely injured patients.”

Well-known as a practicing orthopedic surgeon in Lake County for over 20 years, Caronis’ practice with Advocate Medical Group Orthopedics focuses on disorders of the foot and ankle, fracture and orthopedic trauma care and general orthopedics. He will complete a Master’s in Business Adminstration (MBA) program in June of this year.

Caronis hopes to combine knowledge garnered through his MBA studies with his medical experience to straddle the divide between financial and medical issues. “My goal is to work across surgical disciplines to build strong, effective teams,” explained Caronis. He added, “We need to work cooperatively and pool our collective experience and knowledge if we are to address many of the complex administrative, marketing and financial issues involved in providing high quality care while ensuring viability for the hospital.”
