Gurnee's Great Wolf Now Offering Day Passes

The Gurnee Village Board approved the measure this past week and Six Flags officials are not thrilled.

GURNEE, IL — The Gurnee Village Board approved a measure this past week that will allow Great Wolf Lodge to sell day passes to its water park — a move that has Six Flags officials concerned over the resort stealing some of its water park customers during the summer months, according to the Daily Herald. The 45-trial program for the day passes starts Friday (June 21) with the cost for a pass starting at $40, said Steven Jacobsen, Great Wolf Lodge vice president of domestic development. The hotel will offer a limited number of days passes per day, which will be determined based on how many vacant rooms Great Wolf has that day.

Ultimately, Great Wolf is hoping to encourage people to instead purchase a room through its day pass program, since rooms range from $150 to $400, and Jacobsen says offering a limited number of days passes will also mean less crowding or lines waiting for rides. The pool is heated to 84 degrees and includes a variety of indoor water slides and water attractions. Day passes can be purchased online and while they start at $40, some days, such as Saturday, June 22, the cost is $75 per person. Children two years old and younger are free.

The move to allowing day passes is expected to bring in an additional $200,000 in sales tax revenue for the city and is also meant to add revenue to Great Wolf's coffers when it has vacant space, the Daily Herald reports. And while Six Flags management did express concern regarding competition with Great Wolf, Jacobsen reasons that since its occupancy is highest during the summer months when Six Flags is open, there will be fewer day passes being offered.
