Coroner IDs Mom, Baby Killed In Crash Near Waukegan
Four more people were injured in the T-bone collision that happened Saturday afternoon at North Green Bay Road near Atlantic Avenue.
LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the mother and baby killed in a two-vehicle T-bone crash near Waukegan Saturday afternoon.
Cecilia Gutierrez-Ramos, 29, and her 8-month-old son, Angel Gutierrez, both of Waukegan, died at a local hospital following the collision at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday at North Green Bay Road near Atlantic Avenue in unincorporated Waukegan, according to authorities.
Police say the crash happened when a Dodge Journey heading north on Green Bay Road collided with a Toyota Corolla. The Toyota was leaving a private parking lot on the east side of the road when it drove in front of the Dodge, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The Toyota hit the driver's side of the Dodge. Angel Gutierrez was restrained in his car seat behind the driver's side of the Toyota at the time of the crash and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center with critical injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Cecilia Gutierrez-Ramos was a front passenger in the Toyota at the time of the crash. She was also taken to Condell Medical Center with serious injuries and later pronounced dead.

Autopsy results show both Gutierrez and Gutierrez-Ramos died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the Dodge was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan with serous injuries, and two passengers in the Dodge, a 19-year-old Beach Park man and a 24-year-old Zion man, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
