Jury Finds Man Guilty In Child Sex Assault Case

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A Lake County jury has found a 55-year-old man, who sexually assaulted a child over a six-year period, guilty on 17 felony counts.

On Thursday, Michael Main was convicted on six predatory criminal sexual assault and 11 criminal sexual assault charges, according to a news release from the Lake County State's Attorney's Office. He now faces a minimum prison sentence of 80 years.

In August 2016, authorities in Libertyville took Main into custody after investigating a report from a person who said they'd been sexually assaulted by Main over the course of six years, according to a news release.

A jury returned its guilty verdicts Thursday after about an hour of deliberations. During the trial, which started Tuesday, the jury heard from forensic and medical experts. Main did not take the stand and the defense did not call any witnesses to testify.

Main has remained behind bars on a $1.5 million bail since August 2016. He is next expected in court for a motions hearing on Sept. 20.
