Lake Co. Coroner To Bury 79 Unclaimed Bodies In Libertyville Ceremony

A procession through Libertyville will precede the burial Monday.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The Lake County Coroner's Office will host a ceremony Monday to recognize the lives of 79 people whose bodies were never claimed or whose families were unable to host a funeral for them.

The county's first-ever Ecumenical Indignant Burial Ceremony will be held at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 West Buckley Road, Libertyville, starting at 1 p.m., according to a news release from the coroner's office.

The remains of the 79 indigent or unclaimed people, who have been cremated, will be buried at the cemetery. Funeral directors from across the county will transport the remains from the coroner’s office to the cemetery with an escort from the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, according to the coroner's office news release.

The procession route will begin at the coroner’s office at 12:15 p.m. and proceed south on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue to IL Route 120, west on IL Route 120 to O’Plaine Road, south on O’Plaine Road to Route 137.
