Beginning with the 2020 tax bills, which will be in mailboxes in May 2021, Lake County property owners will be given a code on their bill to register for future property tax bills through eBilling. By registering for eBilling, property owners will receive email notification next year that their property tax bill is online and ready to be viewed. EBilling will save Lake County money on printing costs and postage, and reduce the County’s environmental footprint.

“This is a gamechanger for Lake County property owners,” Kim added. “Most of us are used to receiving all our other bills online. It’s about time the Lake County Treasurer’s Office moves into the future.”

EBilling will be the fastest and most efficient way for property owners to receive their property tax bill. Property owners who opt in for eBilling will conveniently and seamlessly click through the website to make a payment online. “This improvement goes hand in hand with our new initiative to remove fees for paying electronically by check,” Kim said. “It will provide a seamless process for receiving and paying property taxes that is convenient and easy for Lake County property owners. EBilling combined with a zero-fee electronic check payment is fast, easy, and the most accurate way to pay.”

The Lake County Board approved the contract for providing property tax bills by email, noting that the County has a strategic goal of promoting a sustainable environment and providing greater transparency about property taxes. “Lowering fees for Lake County homeowners has long been a strategic goal of our Board,” said Sandy Hart, the Chair of the Lake County Board. “With these two improvements, Lake County homeowners will get their bills quicker, save on postage, pay without a fee, and reduce environmental waste.”

EBilling also reduces the need for physical contact, which is crucially important during the Covid-19 public health emergency.
