Lake Co. Sheriff's Office Gets First Female Deputy Chief
Sgt. Karen Serzynski has been promoted to the rank of deputy chief of the court security division.

LAKE COUNTY, IL -- The Lake County Sheriff's Office has its first female deputy chief. Last week, the sheriff's office announced the promotion of Sgt. Karen Serzynski to the rank of deputy chief of the court security division, making her the first female to serve as a deputy chief for the law enforcement agency, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
Her promotion officially took effect on Jan. 5.
"...I’ve been impressed with Karen’s skillset, aptitude, and dedication to the Lake County community," Lake County Sheriff John Idleburg said. "Karen has a proven track record and I have the utmost confidence her contribution in the role of Deputy Chief will positively impact the Sheriff’s Office and the community.”

Karen joined the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 after serving as a Deerfield Police Officer. She served as a Deputy Sheriff in the Court Security Division, Highway Patrol Division, and Criminal Investigations Division.
Karen was promoted to sergeant in 2012 and served as a commanding officer in the Administration Division, Community Services Division, Highway Patrol Division, and Court Security Division.

Karen has a received numerous commendations and awards throughout her career, according to a news release. She is known throughout Lake County for her achievements as a juvenile officer and work as an Internet Crimes Against Children investigator.
In her new role as the deputy chief of the court security division, Serzynski will utilize her skills in supervising over 65 employees and to continue building relationships with the judges and employees of the 19th Judicial Circuit, other Lake County Departments, and ensuring that the judicial facilities are kept safe, according to the news release.
