“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office issued a total of 214 citations which include eight drunk-driving arrests, issued 36 seat belt citations, six child restraint citations, six using cell phone while driving citations, five illegal transportation of alcohol citations, 13 driving while license revoked/suspended citations, 51 speeding citations, 11 non traffic citations and served two arrest warrants during the recent Independence Day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket crackdown on drunk drivers and seat belt law violators,” said Sheriff Mark C. Curran, Jr. “We also reminded everyone that our Marine Unit would be out enforcing the laws on the waterways. The Marine Unit issued a total of 32 citations which include four operating while intoxicated arrests and conducted a total of 61 safety boardings,” Curran said.
Law enforcement agencies throughout Illinois participated in this statewide effort to get drunk drivers off our roadways and encourage seat belt use, especially during late-night hours.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with state and local law enforcement agencies in conducting the crackdown campaign featuring high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities including a media campaign and additional police activity.

Extra emphasis was given to the late-night hours when statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest buckle up.
The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT’s Division of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.
