Details On New Dunn Museum Exhibits Released
A grand opening event is scheduled for March 24.

From Lake County Forest Preserves: The new Bess Bower Dunn Museum in Libertyville is ready to open its doors and take visitors of all ages on a chronological walk through Lake County’s history from prehistoric times to the present. Operated by the Lake County Forest Preserves and named after Lake County’s first official historian, the Dunn Museum shares the entwined stories of people, events and nature through interactive exhibitions, educational programs and community engagement. Highlights include:
- A scientifically accurate replica of a Dryptosaurus measuring 20 feet long
- Giant fossil-covered rock that is 420 million years old and weighs 1,700 pounds
- Full-scale wigwam created with guidance from local Native American tribe members
- Reproduction of a one-room schoolhouse used by early settlers
- Authentic Gatling gun and other artifacts from the Civil War era
- Reproduction of a tour boat used to take sightseers on tours of lotus beds
- Special Illinois Bicentennial exhibition with artifacts from the 2018 book “200 Objects that Made Lake County History”
When: Previews available to media March 19-23.
Grand opening event scheduled for Saturday, March 24 from 10am-5pm.
