GURNEE, IL — The Gurnee Police Department is investigating a series of burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Shortly before 4 a.m., officers were dispatched to a business in the 400 block of Riverside Drive after multiple burglar alarms were triggered. When they arrived, officers discovered the front windows of several businesses had been shattered, police said.

While investigating the burglaries, officers learned the crimes were a coordinated effort involving multiple locations. In total, 15 businesses across Gurnee were burglarized, according to police.

Shawn Taylor, public information officer for the Gurnee Police Department, said the businesses have asked that their names not be shared with media outlets so it's unclear which businesses were targeted.

He could say that the burglaries took cash from some of the registers and in other instances, the entire cash register was taken.

"In other cases, nothing was taken from the store," Taylor said. "We are still working with businesses to determine exactly how much was taken, if anything."

Some of the incidents were not discovered until employees arrived later on Wednesday to work. Surveillance video shows multiple people were involved in burglaries. The burglars donned masks and gloves and broke the front windows of businesses to gain access to the store, police said.

All of the burglars left the scene before police arrived.

The burglaries remain under investigation and police in Gurnee are asking for the public's help in tracking down more information regarding the crimes.
