Libertyville American Legion Wants Queen of Hearts Game In Town

The local American Legion post is asking village officials to change its raffle ordinance to allow them to a Queen of Hearts raffle.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL –Libertyville's American Legion Post 329 is looking to start its own Queen of Hearts raffle and is asking village officials to change the amount of allowed winnings in its raffle ordinance to make the game possible, the Daily Herald reports. The village board's license and permits committee is expected to consider the changes at 7 p.m. Tuesday at village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. Under the village's current ordinance, the highest raffle prize allowed is $20,000 and the maximum time period for raffle sales is 180 days.

Post 329 is asking the village to change the maximum prize to $2 million and change the time period for the sales to 365 days, according to the article. Libertyville's village administrator Kelly Amidei is recommending the maximum prize start at $250,000, but has added that amount could be re-evaluated later.

The hope is that the Queen of Hearts game would provide a significant source of income for the local American Legion post. The addition of the game comes two months after the McHenry VFW Post 4600 saw its Queen of Hearts jackpot top out at $7.1 million before a winner was selected.
