Libertyville H.S. Evacuated After Fire Alarm Activated

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — Authorities evacuated Libertyville High School for a short time Tuesday morning after smoke reported in a hallway set off a fire alarm.

The Libertyville Fire Department and Libertyville Police Department responded to the incident at 7:53 a.m., fire officials told Patch. The incident happened prior to the start of school at 8:45 a.m.

Authorities say they evacuated the building, at 708 W Park Avenue, for 10 to 15 minutes. The Libertyville Fire Department determined a refrigerant leak in the air conditioning system lead to the smoke on the second floor of the school and the alarm activation.

Fire officials determined it was safe for students and staff to enter the building, and the incident did not push back the start of the school day, according to a statement from District 128.
