A 27-year-old Libertyville man was killed after he was struck by an SUV after accidentally falling out of a limo bus on the Tri-State Tollway near Deerfield early Saturday. Authorities have identified the victim as James J. Larsen. A preliminary investigation shows the incident happened while the 2012 Freightliner limo bus was heading north on I-294 at Lake Cook Road, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

Larsen, a passenger on the bus, went to the front of the vehicle to turn up the radio volume, according to the news release. At that time, he lost his balance and fell down the stairs of the limo bus. He struck the bus door, which opened, and he fell out onto I-294.

He was then hit by a black sport utility vehicle. The SUV continued north on I-294, leaving the scene of the crash, police said. Larsen was pronounced dead at the scene.
