Libertyville Native Now Starring in Hit Broadway Show, 'Hamilton'

Phillipa Soo, who stars in the hit Broadway show Hamilton in New York, got her start as an actor, singer and dancer in Libertyville. Soo plays Eliza Hamilton, wife of the founding father Alexander Hamilton, in the Broadway hit that has attracted celebrities such as Beyonce, Jimmy Fallon and Meryl Streep and is billed as a hip-hop version of Alexander Hamilton's life, according to the Daily Herald.

Soo, who attended Libertyville High from 2005 to 2008, performed in Cats, Oklahoma and Guys and Dolls at the All-State Theater Festival while in high school, according to the Daily Herald. But, Soo tells the Daily Herald her acting debut truly began in her Libertyville home as a child when she would stand on a coffee table in a pink tutu and put on a show for her stuffed animals and her mom.

Her audience has grown since as tickets have become nearly impossible to come by to the Broadway sensation now performing at Rodgers Theatre in New York City. And the show has been wracking up the accolades. The cast of Hamilton recently performed live via satellite at The Grammy's and also took home the Grammy for the Best Musical Theater Album.

Soo graduated from Julliard Dance in 2012 and Hamilton is her Broadway debut.

"It's insane. I would have never dreamed this and it's quite the dream," Soo said during a Today show interview.
