Incumbents Win Re-Election on Libertyville Village Board

Four candidates were vying for three open seats during the 2019 spring election campaign for a Libertyville trustee seat.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL —Libertyville voters headed to the polls Tuesday, making their selection for local leaders. Among the contested races on Libertyville residents' ballot was a four-way race for three opens seats on the village board. Incumbent Donna J. Johnson lead the race with 30.18 percent of the vote total followed by incumbents Peter W. Garrity and Scott Adams with 27.91 percent and 26.72 percent, respectfully, according to unofficial results.

Newcomer Jeanine C. Chyna trailed with 15.19 percent of the vote .

One of the biggest challenges candidates picked for the local seats now faces centers around stormwater upgrades. The village has been looking at enacting a $45.5 million stormwater utility fee to help curb flooding and to spearhead flood control projects, according to the Daily Herald. In recent weeks, the village board approved an $82,900 contract with Ayres Associates out of Madison, Wisconsin.

The firm has been tasked with determining the number of impervious surfaces in Libertyville, which is meant to give village officials an idea of how much to charge residents for flood control projects, according to the article.

Enacting a potential fee will likely not be popular with residents and Adams wrote in his Daily Herald candidate profile that Town Hall meetings are expected to be held to hash out the details before a final decision is made.

"We have looked at many options, and most will be unpopular because the cost will be a potential burden on our residents," Adams said.

Other contested races of interest on Libertyville residents' ballots include the Cook Memorial Library District race, with voters picking four candidate in the six-way race, and the District 128 school board race, with five candidates vying for three open seats.
