Botello is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the May 28, 2020, shooting death of Gavile Jackson, 18, according to Lake County court documents.
The shooting followed a "disagreement between a small group of people who knew each other," said Lake County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Covelli, spokesman for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.

"They had gathered for an exchange that may have been drug related," Covelli said.
The Mundelein Police Department investigators used witness information and surveillance footage to identify Botello, authorities said. Prior to living in Mexico, Botello lived in Wheeling.
He is next expected in court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 28, according to online court records.
