Man 'Running Errands For Family' Prior To Fatal Crash

A GoFundMe has been set up to bring in funds for the family of Ezequiel Martinez, 61, who was killed Sunday in the Libertyville crash.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL — A Libertyville man was out running errands for his family when his car was rear ended on U.S. Highway 45 at Peterson Road Sunday night.

The 61-year-old man, Ezequiel Martinez, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center following the collision at 11:45 p.m. Sunday where he was pronounced dead. Following the crash, a GoFundMe has been set up to bring in money to help pay for Martinez's funeral.

As of Wednesday afternoon, $765 has been raised. The goal for the GoFundMe is $10,000.

"Ezequiel Martinez also known to family and friends as "Chequelo" was involved in a tragic fatal accident. He was simply running errands for his family when his vehicle was rear ended..." according to the GoFundMe.

Martinez had a wife and two daughters.

On Monday, the Lake County Coroner's Office completed an autopsy on Martinez, and preliminary results from the autopsy show he died from blunt force injuries. The other driver, who sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening, was taken to the hospital, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
