Medicare - Introduction
Learn what you need to know about Medicare before you sign up for a program.

Did you know that even the wealthiest Americans must enroll in Medicare to get health coverage starting at 65? Medicare is not automatic; you have to sign up for it within a specified period of time; and it is not free; there are monthly premiums, deductibles, and copayments. And it does not cover everything. This class will cover enrollment: who, when, how; Parts A, B, D, and the supplemental plans; expected premiums for Part B; deductibles and co-insurance; what Medicare covers and what it doesn’t; Medigap Policies, and Medicare Advantage Plans, and how to shop for these policies; and planning for future health care costs, and Long-Term Care. Gold Card Fee is $13.50. Tuition: $19. Two classes are available. Class 5170 meets on Wednesday from 7:00–8:30 PM on February 24 at Libertyville High School. Class 5169 meets on March 2 at Vernon Hills High School from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. Registration is required. Register online through District 128’s Community Education Department at www.ComEd128.org, or call 847-247-4576 to register by phone.
