Metra Station Renovation Project Starts This Week

If you are a Metra commuter, find out what the renovation project will mean for you.

LIBERTYVILLE, IL -- Construction will get underway this week on a $1.3 million renovation project planned for Libertyville's downtown Metra station. Those seeking information on Metra-related matters or looking to buy tickets will be directed to a temporary trailer. The project has faced delays because of high bids and again because of design specifications for the temporary trailer, according to the Libertyville Review.
Bids For Metra Station Makeover Way Too High: Village Officials
“I’m anxious to get the project going and get it completed,” Libertyville Mayor Terry Weppler told Pioneer Press. “It’s been a long time coming. It was one of my goals in my last term, and it seems like it’s taking forever.”
According to village officials, the contractor working on the project will begin installation of the construction fencing around the perimeter of the Metra Station work site on Thursday, Oct. 4. This will restrict access to the building to authorized individuals only.
This fence will surround the area in the shaded region of the diagram above. This will mean all Metra ticketing and other Metra related matters will move to the temporary ticket trailer just east of the building, also shown in the diagram above.
In addition, 20 permit parking spaces that will not be available for use due to the station renovation will be moved to north end of the American Legion lot and will be open for use starting on Oct. 4. The permit parking spaces relocated to the American Legion lot will have signs posted designating these spots as commuter permit parking from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
