Mundelein Man's Killer Sentenced To 69 Years

He was found guilty of first-degree murder after killing one and wounding three, according to reports.

CHAMPAIGN, IL — A 20-year-old found guilty of a 2016 fatal shooting of a Mundelein man at a party near the University of Illinois was sentenced Thursday to 69 years in prison.

Robbie Patton, 20, of Champaign, was convicted in September of killing George Korchev, 22, of Mundelein, at the party. He was convicted of first-degree murder for the killing alongside aggravated battery with a firearm for wounding three others, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A party in the 300 block of East Green Street led to a fight. None of the victims were involved in the fight, the Tribune reported. Judge Roger Webber decided between requests of Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson and defense attorney Tony Allegretti.

Larson wanted a 115-year sentence, the Tribune reported, attempting to show a pattern of wrongdoing. This included an incident when Patton, who was a minor at the time, pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Allegretti, on the other hand, wanted 51 years. It wasn't a pre-planned mass shooting, he said, and cited Patton's young age as a factor.

Judge Roger Webber sentenced Robbie Patton Thursday.

Assistant State's Attorney Scott Larson sought a 115-year sentence, trying to show a pattern of wrongdoing noting an incident as a minor where Patton pleaded guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm.
