New year, new you, new classes begin the week of January 4th.
New Art, Music, Drama Classes for Babies, Youth, and Adults
A wide variety of art classes for children and adults are taught in picturesque studios surrounding David Adler’s historic home. Visit www.adlercenter.org for to register, or for more information.
Youth and Adult Art Classes
Classes begin the week of January 4th and beginners are always welcome.
Drawing: Youth will create works of art using a variety of drawing techniques, including perspective, composition, shading, and blending colors. Designed for beginners and continuing artists. For ages 5-12.

Mixed-Media: Youth can create a whimsical, visual record of images, ideas, and dreams while learning to create with texture, color, and shape. Explore drawing, painting, and collage. For ages 5-12.
Adult and Teen Painting: Independent Study: Teens and adults can receive personalized instruction on a project of their own choosing. Come to class with an image or idea and receive instruction and guidance as you complete your project. Ages 12 and up.

Art and Wine Workshops: Follow along in this relaxing step-by-step workshop as you receive art instruction and learn techniques to paint your own acrylic painting. “Bring Your Own Bottle” to enjoy, listen to music, and complete your own personal masterpiece. January 14th and 29th, evenings.
Penguin Painting Workshop: Children and adults are invited to a fun and festive January workshop. Receive step-by-step instruction as you paint an adorable January penguin. January 16th from 10:30-11:30am.
New Music Classes for Infants and Preschool Children
Music-in-the-Box, a child-centered music education program for very young children, presents the following 6-week classes at the Adler Center which begin the week of January 11th
Baby/Music Master 1, Ages 0-18 months: Make music a weekly part of your baby’s developmental experiences. Learn songs and activities you can do with your child at home. Rhythm instruments, scarves, puppets, and books are used with poetry and song to create a rich learning environment. Thursdays, 10:30-11am
Music Masters 2, Ages 16 months-3: Music is the ideal activity at this age of energy, independence and social awareness. Singing, dancing, books and pretend play will delight your child in this class. Basic music concepts are introduced, increasing your child’s musical intelligence. Thursdays, 9:30-10:15am
Music Maestros, Ages 4-5: Taking the next step in instrument or vocal readiness is the goal of Music Maestros. All children will play theory games to enhance their musical intelligence within an engaging parent/child musical classroom. Using rhythm instruments with purpose, understanding beats and rhythms and basic dynamic and tempo games create the perfect learning environment for the preschool aged child. Wednesdays, 5:15-6pm
Group Piano, Intro to Suzuki, Ages 4-6: This class is especially suited for children and their parents who would like to begin the Suzuki Method of Piano Learning in a fun, group setting. Stations around the room with basic theory games enhance parents ability to coach their children in meaningful musical ways. Each child receives a 7 minute private lesson and the group game/lesson at the end of class is a family favorite. Wednesdays, 6-7pm
Parent-Tot Reggio Preschool Class:
Begins week of January 18th. Ages 15 months – 3 years.
Parent-Tot Reggio: This is a dynamic new preschool class designed for our youngest community members. Young children and their caregivers will participate in storytelling, puppetry, and musical experiences. Using their senses they will explore various art materials, musical instruments, and be given opportunities for creative movement. In addition, the grown-ups will be introduced to the Reggio philosophy of education and will be given tools to support the learning at home. Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30pm and Fridays, 9:30-10:30am.
Preschool Drama Class:
Begins week of February 2nd. Ages 3 - 6 years.
Literature to Life: Children will learn drama games that explore movement, music, as well as theater improvisation. They will listen to classical tales and learn how to bring them to life through theater.
Students will design and create simple set pieces and props to enhance the performances. Through these activities children will work on problem-solving skills, allow more flexibility in their thinking, expand imaginations, learn to work cooperatively in a group, and have fun! There will be a performance on the last day of class open to the public. Wednesdays, 12:30 - 2:30pm.
